Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of ICC Champions Trophy

BCCI confirmed last night that their leading pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy. Due to his lower back injury, Harshit Rana was announced as his replacement in the final squad for the upcoming event. 

Jasprit’s name was announced earlier for the Champions Trophy squad. Unfortunately, he could not make his place in the lineup before the deadline. Bumrah faces a back injury during the last test match of BGT. After that, he did not play any format of cricket and did his recovery in Bengaluru.

Bumrah’s setback was a big blow for Team India because he was in his prime form. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, he was awarded player of the tournament, picking 15 wickets. In the Border Gavaskar Trophy, he delivered 150 overs and became the highest wicket-taker.

The 23-year-old Harshit Rana was named as a replacement, he made his debut against England this year in Nagpur. While, the mystery spinner, Varun Chakaravarthy was also entered in the 15 members in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The tournament of 8 teams will begin on 19 Feb in Pakistan & UAE. In the opening match, Pakistan and Kiwis faced off each other. India started their campaign for the tournament against Bangladesh on 20 February.
