Why Glenn Maxwell Retires from ODI

In an interview, Maxi reveals why he wants to shift his focus to the T20 format and announces his retirement from one-day cricket.

Reason

In a washout game against Afghanistan in CT25 Maxwell felt that he was at the point where his body couldn’t adjust under imperfect conditions in the longer format. He thinks there are more roles in the one-day format. And he can’t able to support the team in 50-Overs.

He revealed if I were capable of put some effort then I would never skip my role. He stated that he realized that it could take more time to build himself again and make a comeback. He said it would be a selfish approach if I took one more series to finalize my end of the ODI career.

Talk with the Selectors

The right-hander finisher talked with George Bailey and targeted the 2027 World Cup. He said  I feel you should start to provide chances to youngsters in my place. And till the 2027 World Cup they make their own place in the side. He further said that it is the best time to invest in the new players when the direction of the team is clear.

Future Ambitions

The explosive hitter aims for next year’s T20 World Cup in Asian conditions. He thinks the 20-over format is short and quick format with high intensity. He felt that he is currently able to give his beast athleticism in T20 cricket.
