The successful captain of the Indian team in the last two years, surprisingly revealed his departure from red ball captaincy. Rohit Sharma confirms through social media about his retirement from test cricket at the age of 38.
The Hitman first appeared in the white jersey in 2013 for India in Kolkata. Over the batting average of 40, he registered 12 centuries & 18 fifties in 67 test matches. He took the responsibility of red ball captaincy in 2022.
During his captaincy tenure, the team winning ratio is above 50 percent. In 24 matches, they lost 9 games with 3 ties. Qualifying for the WTC final 2023 was one of their achievement as a skipper but unfortunately, they can not lift the cup.
Why Rohit Sharma Retired from Test Cricket?
From this afternoon, this news is in circle that the selection committee looking for a new captain in red ball cricket. Due to the concerns over Sharma’s form in the last few series including the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
The management wants to give the hold of the test cricket to the new person before the England series in WTC 2025. The strong contenders for the new Indian captain are Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah.
In the note on social media, Rohit said “ It was my best achievement to represent India in test format. But now I decide to take retirement from test cricket.“ He further said, “he will lead the Indian team in ODI format.“
